Polishing Acrylic

Restoring the original high-gloss finish of acrylic sheet is simple with proper polishing techniques. Both the edges and surfaces of acrylic can be polished to a clear, like-new shine using basic tools.

How to Polish Acrylic:

  • Use an inexpensive buffing wheel attached to a standard electric drill.

  • Pair it with a suitable buffing compound designed specifically for plastics.

  • Work slowly and evenly, applying light pressure to avoid overheating the acrylic.

  • For best results, polish in stages using progressively finer compounds if needed.

Polishing removes fine scratches, restores clarity, and enhances the appearance of your acrylic projects—especially after cutting or machining.
